The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at Cohen Children's Medical Center continues to expand its life-saving partnership with the hospital staff.

Our KPTC Service Leadership Committee recently began piloting the new Safety Olympics curriculum and materials provided by NYS Safe Kids. While our Service Leadership Committee remains committed to facilitating their own Safe Kids workshops to prevent pediatric trauma, this new curriculum and materials can be loaned to schools, youth centers and Kiwanis clubs so safety workshops can be run without the need for trained workshop facilitators.

If any club wishes to borrow a kit or have the KPTC Service Leadership Committee run a safety workshop, please contact KPTC VP and Service Leadership Liaison Rich Santer at rs2wdld@aol.com.

KPTC Service Leadership Committee members Alexa Forberg and Maeve Barth-Dwyer worked with the Huntington Kiwanis Club to hold safety workshops at the Huntington YMCA Healthy Kids Day. Special thanks to Doris Mellina and Barbara Macchiaroli for coordinating KPTC's participation in this annual event.

KPTC Service Leadership Committee members also ran a Safe Kids workshop using elements from the new Safety Olympics curriculum at a county-wide track meet in early May.

We would like to thank those Kiwanians from the Long Island South Central, Long Island North and Queens East divisions who came out to support the KPTC Service Leadership Committee's Pancake Breakfast on April 12. The event raised more than $1,000 for the foundation.

Our KPTC Foundation is also pleased to announce that we have contracted with a credit card processor to allow us to accept credit cards for donations online or for events like the Black & White Ball.

The foundation's annual Raffle Basket fundraiser was revised, changing its location and adding an Evening in Italy theme. The event had nearly 100 attendees hoping to win one or more of the more than 75 baskets. The event raised more than $3,400 for our trauma center. Special thanks to Lisa and Rich Santer for their work on making this event a success.

At the end of June, the North Shore Kiwanis Club sponsored the Nassau to Suffolk Bicycle Challenge. This annual events benefits our Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center. Special Thanks to KPTC Foundation Board member Tom Destio and the North Shore Kiwanis Club for all their work on this major fundraiser.

Finally, I wish to invite you all to KPTC's second annual Monte Carlo Night that will be Aug. 1 at the Seaford American Legion Hall. For more details, contact Ann Torcivia at (516)822-5966 or via email at friendstravelny@verizon.net.

As always if your club or division would like a foundation board member to present a program on KPTC, please contact Foundation President DPG Joe Corace at jcorace@icmdata.com.

We look forward to seeing you at the Monte Carlo Night and wish every a safe and wonderful summer.
