On July 25, the Kiwanis International Council, meeting in Indianapolis and online from around the world, completed the business which would have taken place at the canceled June International Convention in Indianapolis.
The International Council consists of the current International Board members, all Kiwanis International Past Presidents, all district governors and the leaders of the affiliate organizations in Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Convened by President Daniel Vigneron of the Belgium-Luxembourg District, the council had a potential to have 92 members; 85 were expected, and 75 were online early in the meeting. Connected viewers of the meeting ranged from 900 to 940.
Uncontested races for International President and International President Elect took place, with Art Riley of the Capital District and Peter Mancuso of the New York District elected, respectively.
Elected Vice President for the coming year was Bert West from the Rocky Mountain District. He defeated Chuck Gugliuzza from the Florida District in a run off in a race which started with five candidates.
The council did not consider any bylaw amendments. The seven proposals and one resolution which would have been considered in Indianapolis were withdrawn and may be proposed again at a later date.
Elected to three-year terms on the International Board were Michael Mulhaul of the New Jersey District, Kip Crain of the Ohio District and Chuck Fletcher of the Kentucky-Tennessee District.
A seat for an at-large trustee also was contested this year. Winning it was Michel Fongue of the New Zealand-South Pacific District.
At the meeting's start, a resolution was approved honoring the work of five past international presidents who have died during the past year.
Honored were, from left in the graphic above, Ray Lansford, 1984-85; Frank DiNoto, 1986-87; Anton "Tony" Kaiser of the New York District, 1987-88; Dr. John Button 2014-15, and Florencio "Poly" Lat, 2018-19.
