The following resolution was unanimously approved by the House of Delegates at the 2022 New York District Convention in Rochester:
Whereas, Eric Paul joined the Orchard Park High School Key Club, and served as Club Bulletin Editor, Club Secretary, and was elected Lieutenant Governor of the Niagara Frontier West Division in 1975-1976, being recognized as a Distinguished Past Lt. Governor and received the Governor's Award for Excellence; and
Whereas, upon attending State University at Albany, he worked to re-charter the Circle K Club at Albany, serving as the Charter Secretary and then Administrative Assistant for the Division; and
Whereas, he was elected to serve as the NY District Circle K District Secretary under then Governor (and now NY District Kiwanis Executive Director) Rich Hall for 1977-1978; and
Whereas, he served as the I 978-1979 NY District Circle K Governor working with then Kiwanis District Governor and Past Kiwanis International President Jerry Christiano; and
Whereas, he was elected as Circle K International Vice President in 1979, counseling three Districts and serving on several Board Committees; and
Whereas, after graduation from SUNY Albany, he attended the State University at Buffalo starting a Master's program, and served as the Circle K Club President, when the club won the District's Total Achievement Award for that service year; and
Whereas, Eric joined the Kiwanis Club of West Seneca in the Fall of 1983, sponsored by Jim Yochum, who was to become Kiwanis Governor in 1998-1999, and advanced through the club chairs, and served as Distinguished President in 1995-1996; and
Whereas, Eric served as the HOBY District Chair in 1994-1995 and the 1999 District Convention Chair at the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo; and
Whereas, Eric served Kiwanis Sponsored Leadership Programs in various capacities including, the District Circle K Committee as Assistant Administrator from 1983-1984, serving on the NY Key Club Committee as Special Assistant and later as Assistant Administrator from 1986-1997, as K-Kids District Administrator serving from 2000-2003, and served as Sponsored Youth Alumni Chair under Gov. Bill Risbrook 2011-2012, and was the CKI International Convention Kiwanis Chair for the 2001 CKI Convention held in Buffalo; and
Whereas, Eric served as Kiwanis Lt. Governor Elect for 1998-1999 and Lieutenant Governor of the Niagara Frontier West Division in 1999-2000 under Governor Joe Eppolito; and
Whereas, Eric was elected Board President and was named a Distinguished Past Lt. Governor; and
Whereas, Eric was to serve again as Lieutenant Governor in 2012-2013, and again was elected Board President; and
Whereas, Eric served as Governor-Elect 2013-2014 and proudly served as the 2014-2015 Governor of our New York District; and
Whereas, Eric has continued to serve the District as Formula Chair starting in 2017, Membership Chair from 2016, and New Club Building/Opening Chair; and
Whereas, Eric was appointed by Kiwanis International to serve as FORMULA Northeast Area Chair from 2016-2018; and
Whereas, Eric was elected to the Lyme Disease Foundation board in 2016 and remains on that Board; and served on the NY District Kiwanis Foundation Board from 2013-2016 having served earlier as the Scholarship Chair; and
Whereas, Eric also served as Charter President of the New York Circle K Alumni Association since its formation in 2014, a IRS 501 (c)(3) Corporation that sponsors the New York District Circle K events, awards an annual scholarship, as well as sponsoring meals at the District Events and financially supporting the Annual District Officer Training Session; and
Whereas, Eric was proud to be named the first recipient of the New York Circle K District's Glen J. Fitzpatrick Memorial Outstanding Alumni Award in 2014, and was named Circle K International's Outstanding Alumni at the CKIx in Nashville; and
Whereas, Eric currently serves as Chairman of the NY Kiwanis Past Governors Council;
Whereas, Eric is a Charter member of the Centennial eKiwanis Club, formed in 2014 by members of the 2014-2015 "Button's Brigade" Class of Kiwanis Governors; and
Whereas, professionally, Eric is retired after a career with the State of New York, serving as a Staff Member with the State Assembly, the Office of Court Administration, and the New York State Senate, and he has also worked with the IRS, and as the Director of a Shelter for formerly Homeless US Veterans; and
Whereas, Eric is also a Volunteer fire fighter with almost 42 years of service, and served as the Chair of his town's political committee.; and
Whereas, Eric has a son, Joseph, who attended his first Kiwanis Convention in Lake Placid at five months, and a granddaughter, Rosebella, who is now in kindergarten and keeps him very busy when she visits; and
Whereas, the NY District Past Governors Council recommended Eric's endorsement at the NY District Mid Winter Conference in 2022 and the NY District Board of Directors endorsed him at a meeting held May 11, 2022; and
Whereas, the New York District Kiwanis Policy Code directs that the District endorse its next candidate for International Trustee during the Administrative Year that the District currently has the sitting International President; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE DELEGATES TO THE 105th ANNUAL DISTRICT CONVENTION GATHERED AT THE ROCHESTER HYATT ON AUGUST 20, 2022, ENDORSE PAST GOVERNOR ERIC PAUL FOR THE POSITION OF KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE AT THE NEXT AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW YORK DISTRICT TO NOMINATE A CANDIDATE;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE ENTERED INTO THE MINUTES AND OFFICIAL RECORD OF THE DISTRICT CONVENTION, BE SUBMITTED TO KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL, AND BE PRINTED IN SUMMARY IN EMPIRE STATE KIWANIAN AND THE NY DISTRICT KIWANIS WEBSITE.
