The work on Tom DeJulio's campaign had begun some time before the convention, but another phase began early on Friday, June 25, the day of the vote.
More than 300 New York Kiwanians in attendance at the convention met at 7 a.m. at the Paris Hotel for the district caucus, which focused on campaigning activities. Wearing their "Tom's Team" shirts with "44" on the back (for the number of years DeJulio has been involved with Kiwanis) they then fanned out to the convention hotels to greet delegates as they boarded buses headed for the Convention Center and the day's activities, while another group met the buses when they arrived, passing out campaign brochures and asking for support. That work had to be done in the heat of the day as no campaigning was allowed inside the building.
