Fordham Kiwanis launched a "Have-a-Heart Campaign" shortly after the tragic high-rise apartment fire in the Bronx in January that killed 17 and rendered homeless hundreds more.
With the help of Catholic Charities and POTS ("Part of the Solution"), the club identified three young mothers - Yadira, Desiree, and Mabintou - with infants and young children who needed such necessities as baby formula, infant clothing, diapers, towels, toiletries, cookware, and gift cards.
Fordham Kiwanis members purchased these items (see attached photo) and raised over $4,000 including generous donations from other Kiwanis clubs in Westchester and the Metropolitan Division.
For one of these mothers who was expecting her third child when the fire broke out in January, the club plans to purchase a crib and dresser as soon as her family is able to find suitable permanent housing.
