The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks Student of the Month for December is Mia DiOrio.
Mia is the daughter of Margaret and Robert DiOrio of Old Forge and is a senior at the Town of Webb School. Mia participates in varsity soccer, skiing and softball and is the captain of the alpine ski team. She also participates in Varsity Club, National Honor Society, Sources of Strength and Key Club. During the summer Mia works with her family at DiOrio's Supermarket and also tutors.
She also participates in ESCO with two local physical therapists and with physical education teachers. Her community activities include Polar Bear Ski Club, for which she has raced since she was in elementary school, and she also enjoys giving back to her ski club by mentoring the younger members. Mia enjoys helping out her neighbors whenever possible. She plans on attending Vermont State University at Castleton for athletic training and will ski on their alpine ski team.
The selection criteria for the Kiwanis Student of the Month are community service, academics, athletic involvement, student need and extra-curricular activities.
